The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Sowah, has paid a glowing tribute to the late Nuumo Obroni Yemo VII, Lakpa of the La Traditional Area, describing him as a selfless traditional leader whose contributions to community development and moral leadership will be remembered for generations.

Leading a delegation from the Ministry on Friday, 13th February 2026, Hon. Sowah eulogised the late Lakpa as a principled and God-fearing leader who played a critical role in advancing development within the La Traditional Area. She noted that Nuumo Obroni Yemo VII consistently demonstrated leadership rooted in spirituality, often leading the community in prayers at the commencement of major development projects.

According to the Deputy Minister, the late Lakpa was also instrumental in safeguarding community assets, particularly his pivotal role in preventing the sale of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, a move which she described as critical to protecting the long-term economic interests of the traditional area. She said his courage and firm stance on matters of public interest set him apart as a custodian of truth and accountability.

Hon. Sowah further highlighted the late chief’s unique personality, recalling his sense of humour, approachability, and firmness in ensuring that the right thing was always done. “Nuumo Obroni Yemo VII combined wisdom with humility and firmness with warmth. His leadership style earned him respect not only within La but beyond,” she stated.

She conveyed the Ministry’s condolences to the bereaved family, the La Traditional Council, and the entire La Traditional Area, assuring them of Government’s continued respect for the institution of chieftaincy and its pivotal role in national development.

The visit formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing engagement with traditional authorities and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to honouring the legacy of traditional leaders who contribute meaningfully to peace, development, and social cohesion.
