Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, actively participated in the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference, held from January 6–8, 2026, at the University of Ghana, Legon. His presence highlighted the critical role of local governance in national development and underscored the importance of cross-sector dialogue for holistic policymaking.
The conference, which brings together government officials, parliamentarians, academics, and civil society, serves as a platform to deliberate on governance, economic growth, social development, and sustainable policies.
Hon. Ibrahim engaged with colleagues from various sectors, contributing insights from the local governance perspective and reinforcing how effective district-level administration underpins broader national progress.
Opening the conference, President John Dramani Mahama called for unity, inclusive governance, and citizen participation, emphasizing that sustainable development requires coordinated efforts across all sectors and levels of government. He urged leaders to prioritize transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making in tackling the nation’s development challenges.
Hon. Ibrahim’s active participation reflected the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that local governance initiatives remain aligned with national objectives. By engaging in discussions across sectors, he reinforced the principle that effective governance is interdependent, with progress in one area informing and supporting outcomes in others.
