The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has reiterated Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening collaboration between traditional authorities and state institutions as a key pillar for peace, unity and sustainable local development. 

 

 The Minister was representing  President John Dramamine Mahama at the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Late Kuoro Wogorei Kanton II, held on Friday, 30th January 2026, at Tumu in the Upper West Region.

 

The event, brought together the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Deputy Minister for Communication, Innovation and Digitization, Members of Parliament , members of the Tumu Traditional Council, Municipal and District Chief Executives, o delegation from the Ministry of Local Government,  Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, opinion leaders as well as citizens  of Tumu, was described as a  beautiful but historic occasion.

 

According to the Minister, the celebration served not only as a remembrance of the late Kuoro’s reign but a time to reflect  on the values of unity, consensus-building and service that underpin effective traditional governance.

 

Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim paid glowing tribute to the Late Kuoro Wogorei Kanton II, noting that his reign was characterised by wisdom, humility and a strong dedication to peaceful coexistence, education and community development. He acknowledged the significant role played by the late traditional ruler in strengthening the Traditional Council and promoting harmony within the Tumu Traditional Area, adding that Tumu remains a symbol of stability and cultural continuity among the Sissala people.

 

The Minister, further emphasised that commemorations of this nature are of national importance, as they reinforce Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the relevance of the Institution of Chieftaincy as a strategic partner in democratic governance and national development. He stated that Government, through his outfit, will continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at strengthening Traditional Councils and Judicial Committees, to promote peace-building and alternative dispute resolution, support local economic development and preserve cultural heritage.

 

On behalf of the President, Hon. Ibrahim commended the Tumu Traditional Council and all stakeholders for the successful organisation of the Diamond Jubilee celebration and expressed Government’s hope that the enduring legacy of the Late Kuoro Wogorei Kanton II would continue to inspire unity, peace and development within the Tumu Traditional Area, the Upper West Region and the nation at large.
